Güirros is a study of Latin American immigrants in New Orleans, specifically Honduran and Mexican youth, who have been slighted by a city that urges their deportations and systematically encourages the erasure of their culture. New Orleans is home to the largest Honduran population outside of Honduras, in the United States.​

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Honduras, home to around 8.25 million people, has the highest homicide rate of all countries in the world, with an unprecedented average rate of 90.4 murders per 100,000 (almost every 1,000th person). In 2009 there was less than 2,000 Honduran minors caught at the border, which compared to 2014, has skyrocketed over the years to almost 14,000 (Source: U.S. Customs and Border Protection- “Southwest Border Unaccompanied Alien Children”).
